# Get Eternal Life ## Salvation is Free, Easy, and Forever The Bible says that eternal life is a free gift, and that we can have full assurance of our salvation. ## God’s Nature In order to understand how to be saved, we must first understand who God is. The Bible teaches that he is a morally perfect and righteous God, so perfect that he can’t even look upon iniquity or dwell with the wicked. **Psalm 5:4**  >**4** For thou _art_ not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. **Psalm 34:16**  > **16** The face of the LORD _is_ against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. **Habakkuk 1:13**  > **13** _Thou art_ of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, _and_ holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth _the man that is_ more righteous than he? ## Human Nature This is a problem for humanity, because the Bible makes it clear that we are all full of iniquity. **Isaiah 64:6** >**6** But we are all as an unclean _thing_, and all our righteousnesses _are_ as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. **Psalm 130:3** > **3** If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? The word “iniquity” is just another word for sin or wrongdoing. When God formed each of us in the womb, we were holy and innocent – but we all have committed sin, and we come short of the glory of God every day. **Romans 3:23** > **23** For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; **Romans 3:10-12** > **10** As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: > **11** There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. > **12** They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. **Ecclesiastes 7:20** > **20** For _there is_ not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. **1 John 1:8** > **8** If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ## The Penalty for Sin God’s perfect nature cannot tolerate our sin, and because of this we face severe consequences – spiritual death, and separation from God in the lake of fire – a place of eternal torment. Here are some of the people who deserve this punishment: **Revelation 21:8**  > **8** But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. There are some very serious sins on this list, like murder, but also some common sins like being fearful or telling a lie. Have you ever told a lie? **Isaiah 59:2-3** > **2** But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid _his_ face from you, that he will not hear. > **3** For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. **James 2:10**  > **10** For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one _point_, he is guilty of all. If so, the bad news is that you are on your way to hell. The Bible is clear that if you’ve broken one law, you are just as guilty before God as someone who has broken every law.[](https://geteternal.life/blog/bible-way-to-heaven#the-good-news) ## The Good News God is merciful and loving, and he never wanted us to suffer this penalty, and that’s why he sent his son Jesus to die for us. **Romans 5:8**  > **8** But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ## Who is Jesus? The Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God, and he is also God the Son. He was born of a virgin, and his arrival was prophesied over 700 years beforehand by the prophet Isaiah. **Isaiah 9:6**  > **6** For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. **Matthew 1:23**  > **23** Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. **Matthew 3:17**  > **17** And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Jesus never committed a sin, he never broke one of God’s laws. > **1 Peter 2:22**  > **22** Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: He performed many miracles to prove that he truly was the Messiah from the prophecies. He walked on water, healed the sick, and helped the blind to see. He even raised people from the dead. **Matthew 14:14**  > **14** And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. **Matthew 14:25** > **25** And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. **Matthew 9:24-25**  > **24** He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. > **25** But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. He also preached against the current generation, against the religious leaders of the time and their wickedness. **Matthew 4:23** > **23** And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. **John 7:7** > **7** The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. **Mark 8:38**  > **38** Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. They hated Jesus, and so they plotted against him and arrested him on false charges. They beat him, they spat in his face, they whipped him, and they put a crown of thorns on his head to mock him. **John 19:1-2**  > **1** Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged _him_. > **2** And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put _it_ on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, They made him carry a cross to the site of his execution, where they nailed him to it. **John 19:17-18** > **17** And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called _the place_ of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: > **18** Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. When he was up on that cross, the sins of the entire world were upon him. He bore our sins in his body, taking the punishment we deserve for our sin, so that we could be made clean. **Isaiah 53:5-6** > **5** But he _was_ wounded for our transgressions, _he was_ bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace _was_ upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. > **6** All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. **1 Peter 2:24**  > **24** Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. **1 John 2:2** >**2** And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for _the sins of_ the whole world. After dying for our sins on the cross, he took our place in hell for 3 days and 3 nights. But his soul was not left in hell. **Acts 2:31**  > **31** He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. On the third day, Jesus miraculously rose from the dead, triumphing over sin and death, once and for all. **1 Corinthians 15:4**  > **4** And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: **Luke 24:6-7**  > **6** He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, > **7** Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. After his resurrection, he visited over 500 eyewitnesses, including his former disciples. **1 Corinthians 15:6**  > **6** After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. ## Salvation One of Jesus’s disciples, named Thomas, said that he wouldn’t believe the resurrection unless he saw Jesus himself. So Jesus paid him a visit, and said the following to him: **John 20:27-28**  > **27** Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust _it_ into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. Thomas replied “My Lord and my God,” but Jesus said “blessed are they that have not seen, **and yet have believed.**“ This is an important concept in Christianity, because the Bible teaches that without faith it is impossible to please God. **Hebrews 11:1**  > **1** Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. **Hebrews 11:6**  > **6** But without faith _it is_ impossible to please _him_: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and _that_ he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Therefore, the plan of salvation is simple. In order to be saved, we must believe on the Lord Jesus. Faith alone can save us. **John 3:16-17**  > **16** For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. > **17** For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. **Acts 16:30-31** > **30** And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? > **31** And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. This means we must place all our trust in him alone for salvation. Not in ourselves, or our good deeds. **Acts 4:12** > **12** Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. **John 14:6** >  **6** Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ## Are you a False Convert? Many people believe they are on their way to heaven, but are actually trusting something other than Christ’s sacrifice to take them there. Many trust in false gods, or they trust in their own works of righteousness (going to church, helping people, turning from sin). But the Lord knows who truly trusts in him. **Titus 3:5-6** > **5** Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; > **6** Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; **Romans 3:28**  > **28** Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. That’s right. You don’t have to “be a good person” to have eternal life. You don’t have to clean up your life and turn from all your sins to go to heaven. In fact, the Bible teaches that eternal life is a free gift. **Romans 6:23** > **23** For the wages of sin _is_ death; but the gift of God _is_ eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. **Ephesians 2:8-9**  > **8** For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: _it is_ the gift of God: > **9** Not of works, lest any man should boast. If a friend gave you a brand new laptop, but told you that you had to mow his lawn every week in order to keep it, would that really be a free gift? Of course not, it would be a transaction. But the Bible is very clear that we can’t buy our way into heaven. **Acts 8:20** > **20** But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Our salvation is paid for exclusively by the blood of Christ, not by our works. **Ephesians 1:7** > **7** In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; We never deserved our salvation in the first place, and therefore there’s nothing we could possibly do to ever lose it. Believers are eternally secure. **You can never lose your salvation, no matter what!** **John 10:28-30** > **28** And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any _man_ pluck them out of my hand. > **29** My Father, which gave _them_ me, is greater than all; and no _man_ is able to pluck _them_ out of my Father’s hand. > **30** I and _my_ Father are one. **John 5:24** > **24** Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. **1 Peter 1:4-5** > **4** To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, > **5** Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. **Hebrews 10:14** > **14** For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. **Hebrews 10:17** > **17** And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Did you believe that works played a role in your salvation? Did you believe that you had to get baptised to be saved? Or belong to a certain church or denomination? Did you believe you had to repent of your sins to be saved? Did you believe that you could lose your salvation? If so, you were never saved to begin with, because you didn’t trust Jesus – you trusted yourself. **Galatians 5:4** > **4** Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. **Galatians 2:21** > **21** I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness _come_ by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. **Matthew 7:22** > **22** Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? > **23** And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. **Psalm 94:4** > **4**  _How long_ shall they utter _and_ speak hard things? _and_ all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? **Romans 9:32** > **32** Wherefore? Because _they sought it_ not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; Is this your first time hearing the gospel? Did these words resonate with you? Were you a false convert? Did you change your mind? Luckily, getting saved is as easy as calling upon the name of the Lord in faith. **Romans 10:13** > **13** For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. **Romans 10:9**  > **9** That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. If you changed your mind, and are willing to let God know, you can pray the following prayer: > Dear Lord, I know I’m a sinner. But I know that you sent your son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins, and I believe that he rose from the dead. I am only trusting on you, not on anything that I have done. Please save me, and give me the free gift of eternal life. Amen. If you asked for the free gift today, you can rest knowing that you have been washed, sanctified, and justified in the sight of God. Your sins are as far away from you as the east is from the west, and you are clothed in the righteousness of Christ himself. **Psalm 103:12**  > **12** As far as the east is from the west, _so_ far hath he removed our transgressions from us. **Isaiah 61:10**  > **10** I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh _himself_ with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth _herself_ with her jewels. **Isaiah 1:18**  > **18** Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. And from this point forward, you can have assurance in your salvation, knowing with 100% certainty that you will go to heaven when you die. **1 John 5:13**  > **13** These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. --- [[Homepage]]
